![]() I was just diagnosed with celiac disease. ![]() High-dose thiamine supplementation improves glucose tolerance in hyperglycemic individuals: a randomized, double-blind cross-over trial Thiamine and diabetes: back to the future? Talk to your nutritionist and doctor about supplementing with essential nutrients needed to recover your health. Checking for vitamin and mineral deficiencies is part of proper follow up care for Celiac people. I was deficient in many vitamins and minerals because my Celiac had been misdiagnosed for so long. My night sweats resolved when deficiencies in Vitamin D and Vitamin B 12 were corrected. The pancreas decreases and stops producing what insulin it can when insulin replacement is started. The pancreas will produce sufficient insulin if thiamine deficiency is corrected quickly. The pancreas does not produce enough insulin if there's a thiamine deficiency. My blood glucose levels are now kept in check with diet and Benfotiamine. Thiamine (Benfotiamine) has also helped my Type Two Diabetes. I supplemented with high dose Thiamine (Benfotiamine) and began feeling better within an hour. This is called gastrointestinal beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency. I lost sixty pounds in a month, and had nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal distress, explosive bowels, etc., etc., etc. My Gerd and poor digestion improved with Niacin, too. My Dermatitis Herpetiformis rash and other skin problems resolved with Niacin Vitamin B3. Yes, your body is definitely not getting the essential nutrients it needs! Many so-called gluten free products have been found to have been contaminated with gluten (such as Pamela's cookies, etc.). "A final rule that defines the term gluten-free and identifies the criteria that would enable the food industry to use that term" is scheduled to be released by the FDA on August 2nd, 2008. It is currently up to the manufacturers of "gluten free" food items to guarantee such a claim. Requirements for proper labeling are being formulated by the USDA. Food and Drug Administration has classified gluten as GRAS (Generally recognized as safe). ![]() In the United States, gluten may not be listed on the labels of certain foods because the U.S. The "Codex Alimentarius" set of international standards for food labeling has a standard relating to the labeling of products as "gluten free", however this standard does not apply to "foods which in their normal form do not contain gluten". "Additionally, Accuracy of "gluten-free" labels I contact Revolution and here is what they said. Anyway, here is the reply I received from Revolution tea, via PF Changs: PF Changs has maybe 6 hot teas listed on their regular menu, but actually No drinks are listed on the gluten-free menu so the omission didn't necessarily mean that the teas were not gluten-free. I love to eat at PFChangs but I recently became aware that I need to find out if flavored teas are gluten free. This seems like such a basic Chinese dish that you could get anywhere, but no one does it better than P.F.I posted this earlier in an established "what do you eat when you go to PF Changs" topic but I think it needs to be on its own. The Mongolian beef is described on the menu as “Sweet, soy-glazed 12oz sliced flank steak wok-seared with scallions and garlic” (we substitute scallions for broccoli just because we think it’s better). I personally love rice, so fried rice is a no-brainer. These two dishes are so delicious I could go on forever. My family and I go here so often that we have a regular order: chicken fried rice and Mongolian beef. The staff are very knowledgable about gluten free, and we once spoke to the manager who informed us that they are very careful in their kitchen to prevent cross-contamination. But you can see that it’s gluten free they serve GF dishes on special plates and serve GF sauces in little red dishes. The food is fantastic, and as my lovely Aunt Cat states, “every dish I’ve eaten tastes just as amazing as their gluten-filled dishes.” And they really do, you won’t miss the gluten because you won’t even taste the difference. Chang’s has so many gluten free options, and they’re all listed right on the regular menu no request for a special GF menu necessary. For my first post, I thought I would start out with one of my very favorite restaurants! P.F.
